Facebook will disappear in a few years, says analyst

The popular social network will essentially become a non-entity in several years, claims Ironfire Capital founder Eric Jackson.

Will Facebook suffer the same fate as MySpace in a few years? That's what one analyst predicts.



Speaking on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" program Monday, Eric Jackson, founder of Ironfire Capital, said that Facebook will lose its dominance as a social network in five to eight years.

In his forecast, Jackson cited Facebook's inability to crack the mobile market and the stock's 27 percent nosedive since the company's IPO.

"In five to eight years they are going to disappear in the way that Yahoo has disappeared," Jackson said. "Yahoo is still making money, it's still profitable, still has 13,000 employees working for it. But it's 10 percent of the value that it was at the height of 2000. For all intents and purposes, it's disappeared.

Facebook acquired the domain sometime last year from the American Farm Bureau Federation, which uses fb.org as its primary domain. At its annual meeting in Atlanta, the non-profit revealed that it earned $8.5 million on the sale of fb.com
The last high-profile domain purchase by Facebook was for Facebook.com, all the way back when it was known as TheFacebook. The company paid $200,000 in August 2005 to acquire the domain, 42.5 times less than what Facebook spent to acquire fb.com. While the Facebook.com purchase was expensive for the company back then, it’s an investment that has clearly paid off. The company is obviously hoping that fb.com will also pay off.

The Man Who Creted Dangerous Facebook Virus

Way back in 2005, a kid named Chris Putnam wrote a computer virus that rapidly spread across Facebook. The bug's effect was to make Facebook users' profiles look like MySpace profiles. Unfortunately, the worm also deleted some users's contact details.

Facebook soon found out that putnam was behind all this, but instead of having Putnam arrested, Facebook hired him!!

All About Facebook IPO

At some point, the financial stuff does not make sense.
Facebook is all dressed up to list on the Nasdaq on Friday. And dressed-up is just the right word for the anticipated third-largest initial public offer (IPO) in US history because it seems less like a financial event to be      
watched by sober investors looking for future gains and more like a teenagers’ party on Friday. No one wants to miss out on the fun, it seems. Agency reports say most ordinary people have only a slim chance of  shares as Facebook's underwriters are expected to give priority to their most important clients, usually institutional investors.  Typically, only 5 to 30 percent of IPO shares are set aside for retail investors. Guess what? That sounds like a precious party invite.





What does Facebook IPO mean for users?  Not counting those who make apps and games around Facebook, a new industry has sprung up in people trying to tell what to do with the Facebook IPO. Sample the titles of e-books in this game: “"Facebook IPO Confidential" which purports to teach you "How To Get Rich With The IPO Of The Century."  Or"The Facebook IPO Pitch: Are You In?" and "How To Invest In Facebook".


That’s huge hype for a company whose annual revenues are only $ 4 billion – only 1/25 of its aniticpated $100 billion (R 544,500 crore) market value on listing.  But, at 901 million users worldwide, it seems the number of shares on offer at 241 million seems roughly in the ratio of one share available for every four users.



Scared of Facebook shares? Wager on Friday's close My guess is that Facebook IPO nerds (I think I can call them that)  want to go tell their boyfriend/girlfriend/dad/friends that they have applied for it (as in, “I have applied for Harvard, but I don’t know if I’ll get in”).
At the higher end of $38 a share (Rs 2,000), it  sounds like a concert ticket. Like crazy fans at a rock show, these fans will tell each other: “Gee! At $10 million, GM’s annual spending on Facebook is small money, but General Motors is a corporate icon, whose goodness was once equated with the goodness of  America


Now, look at what Martin Sorrell, chief executive of WPP, the world’s largest advertising agency, says: “There's a lot of potential but it's not a slam-dunk. showing the impact of branding on Facebook is going to take a long time.”





Facebook plans to go public to raise $87bn Such statements might make skeptics wonder if there is another Internet bubble coming up in the market – the kind of which took companies down in 2000 and 2001.
But then, Facebook has integrated with more than 2.5 million websites, and people on Facebook install 20 million apps every day such as games like Farmville.
There must be a lot of Farmville gratitude hiding behind that Facebook party. Oops, for the record, call it IPO!

Facebook is considering to charge user for highlighting their imortant posts,as it is testing a new feature in New Zealand that would make comments more prominent on a user's newsfeed,The Sun reported.



Users in the New Zealand thought they were being scammed after they were presented with an option to "high-light" their post, and charging was one of the options for $2 facebook later confirmed that they were "trailling" the feature, and charging wae one of the options they were considering

Why Should not Enable Facebook Timeline for Page ???

Facebook Timeline option is very basic for everyone now but as in our very last post we mention the how to enable timeline option for the fb pages which is also a very good option for fb pages which gives  a new look to your pages but many times and some peoples are saying that fb pages timeline is not a good option.



How is FB Page Timeline is Good....?

  • Facebook pages timeline gives us the 810 px wide tab which is good for bigger tabs views.
  • You can use bigger images, pictures,  texts, bigger html content like marquee, blink etc.
  • New larger tabs icons in the range between 111px x 74px size.
  • New Icons gives a new and good impression to others and get more visitors.

How is FB Page Timeline is Bad....?

  • Your old content of tabs will still in smaller formats.
  • You have to again customize it in bigger sizes, and also have to make changes in the coding.
  • No Refresh on Likes (This is a very big issue for runing fan-gated promotions and for this reason I would recommend you do not upgrade to Timeline for pages early. When a non-fan click like on tab, currently Facebook does not refresh the pages so we can not automatically show the new fan content. You would have to prompt the fan to refresh their page manually. It is hard to believe this won't be fixed, but currently it is the main reason not to upgrade).
